Ninety-six new security cameras will be installed within the four-level downtown Des Plaines Metropolitan Square parking garage, provided city council approves the measure and the purchase of related equipment at Monday night’s meeting.
The plan calls for the city to spend $157,975 for Super Electric Construction Co. to install the cameras throughout the garage such as in stairwells, elevators, and on all levels. The purpose for the project is to enhance safety, security and operational efficiency, says a city memorandum, adding, “They act as a deterrent against crime, help monitor traffic flow, and can be crucial in resolving disputes or incidents.”
In order to perform the work, the city plans to spend $100,089 to purchase from CDW-G necessary materials such as the cameras.
Numerous public community functions are conducted in Metropolitan Square including the city’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in early December.
