City Republicans Criticize Democratic Leaders Over Recent Incidents and Event Attendance

The Republican Party of New Britain has voiced strong concerns over the attendance of U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz at the Democratic Campaign Kickoff event held this past Saturday. This comes less than three weeks after an incident involving a former Republican's daughter, Allison Cappuccio, who is also the wife of Ward 4 Alderman Neil Connors, was physically assaulted during the Democratic nominating convention. The assault was carried out by the daughter of Luz Ortiz Luna, a former Republican candidate aligned with Mayor Erin Stewart's campaign, who struck Cappuccio on the head as the meeting concluded. The Republican Committee described the situation as a sign of hypocrisy and expressed disappointment with Democratic leaders' participation amid these events.
