CLEMSON — Junior running back David Eziomume is out for the season with a lower-leg injury, Swinney confirmed at his weekly teleconference Sept. 27.
Eziomume went down on a Cal kickoff return during Clemson’s 24-10 win Sept. 25 and was put in an air cast. He had to be carted off the field.
After the game, Swinney said the injury resembled that of defensive tackle Markus Strong, who was injured in the season opener against LSU. Strong later underwent season-ending surgery.
The former three-star recruit out of Kennesaw, Ga., had just one carry this season, an 11-yard touchdown in the 51-10 loss to LSU. He’d been contributing mostly on special teams. Entering 2026, Eziomume had 26 carries for 133 yards.
Fellow RB Jay Haynes is also injured after he experienced a setback in the preseason. Haynes was set to return to play after missing 2025 with a knee injury. Clemson’s RB rotation now consists of Gideon Davidson, Chris Johnson Jr. and Jarvis Green.
Left guard Elyjah Thurmon also went down against Cal, but Swinney said he’s day-to-day.
Clemson takes on No. 4 Miami Oct. 3 in Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
