LYNWOOD — A coalition of health and community leaders have launched Keep L.A. Covered, a countywide campaign to help Los Angeles County residents keep their Medi-Cal coverage as sweeping federal changes take effect.
More than a million county residents face at least one of several Medi-Cal changes phasing in through 2028, including new work requirements and twice-yearly eligibility checks beginning Jan. 1 for many adults ages 19–64. Overall, nearly 4 million county residents — 41% of the population — rely on Medi-Cal for their care.
“For families who depend on Medi-Cal, one missed notice, one missed deadline, or one moment of confusion can mean losing the coverage they depend on — not because they are no longer eligible, but because no one reached them in time,” said Martha Santana-Chin, chief executive officer of the L.A. Care Health Plan. “That is why we built this coalition. Our mission is simple: to make sure that every person who needs coverage keeps it, by reaching them through the voices they already trust.”
