Shrewsbury leaders last week selected a consultant to carry out a long overdue update to the city’s comprehensive plan, which last was revised more than 50 years ago.
In a unanimous vote of the Shrewsbury Board of Aldermen, Kansas City-based Confluence was selected as the “best fit” contractor for the project. The company’s bid of $91,200 is more than the $50,000 the city initially hoped to spend, but was cost competitive with other bidders that responded to the city’s request for proposals.
Confluence’s work also includes processes the board values such as incorporating the voices of local youth into the new comprehensive plan.
Comprehensive plans help guide city services and development, and the plan also helps leaders identify and update municipal codes and ordinances.
“There are places in our code where we are way out of date,” City Administrator Dustin Ziebold said.
The Shrewsbury Plan Commission last year asked for outside help in completing the comprehensive plan update. The commission, as well as a citizen-led steering committee, will be part of the 12-14 month revision process.
