The St. Clair County coroner has identified a man killed in a quadruple shooting late Friday afternoon along State Street in East St. Louis.
Charles E. Tiller, 38, of Madison, was pronounced dead at 5:50 p.m. in the emergency room at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, according to Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.
Tiller had been shot in the chest, Dye said.
Illinois State Police, which is investigating the case, had reported in a news release Saturday that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Trooper Genelle Jones, a public information officer for the agency, corrected that error in an email Sunday morning.

"There was one shooter, and the individuals were known to one another," Jones wrote in the email. "... The suspect has been identified and is being sought at this time."
The exact location of the shooting remains unclear.
The original news release stated that it occurred "at a local nightclub" in the 6800 block of State Street.
