The Carroll City Council voted 4-2 to provide $25,000 for the Carroll Children’s Museum, providing half the amount of the original request.
The approval will ultimately help the nonprofit become eligible for a Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grant. The directors of Carroll Children’s Museum initially requested $50,000.
Marcie Hircock, one of the executive directors for the Carroll Children’s Museum, said their goal for their capital campaign is $400,000. As of the meeting, she said they’ve raised $174,500 from 39 donors.
Recently, the Carroll County Board of Supervisors approved a $10,000 funding request for the museum contingent on the city’s approval. With the backing of the local governments, Hircock said the museum will become eligible to obtain the grant from the Iowa Economic Development Authority.

Hircock said they plan to purchase the space they’re renting, which will cost approximately $200,000. The remaining $200,000 will be used for renovations, as well as miscellaneous costs such as insurance and attorney fees.
