CUMBERLAND — Over a span of just eight days, law enforcement officials responded to three separate shootings involving minors, raising alarms among community members and heightening concerns about increasing youth violence in the area.
Detective Sergeant Mark Waggoner of the Cumberland Police Department highlighted the pattern, stating, "Within this short period, we've handled three incidents, all involving juveniles in some capacity."
Two of these events took place near the intersection of Woodlark Drive and East New York Street, while the latest occurred at a residence on Coole Lane. Authorities believe a drug transaction was underway when a juvenile was shot during the incident.
The police expressed worries about how minors are gaining access to firearms. "It's unclear how kids are obtaining guns—whether through theft, burglaries, or other crimes—but the fact remains, they are finding ways," Waggoner explained.
