HAMDEN – On Saturday afternoon, Quinnipiac women’s soccer won its second consecutive game, defeating the Marist Red Foxes 2-1. This win marked the squad’s fourth victory of the season and its second in Metro Conference play.
Once the ball was kicked off, both teams came out with an aggressive mindset and hoped to use it against each other. There were hard fouls against both teams, with heavy contact away from the ball. Quinnipiac was assessed two yellow cards early on: one against sophomore midfielder Corey Anderson and one issued to junior midfielder Addyson Earl just 20 minutes in.
Another trend early in this game was the stifling play by the Bobcats’ back line. The Red Foxes created odd-man rushes on their counterattack but were stuffed, most notably by Bobcat senior defender Bianca D’Onofrio and sophomore defender Marina Mahon.
Quinnipiac took the energy its defense created and started applying it toward its offense. Two separate quality shots by junior midfielder Klara Bengtsson and graduate student forward Morgan Cupo were shut down by Marist’s junior goalkeeper Samantha Graf.
