D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser eyeing legislation for renovation of Nationals Park

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said Thursday that she “plans to introduce legislation this fall to provide city funding for a renovation of Nationals Park.” Details on the renovation “are scant” and a “price tag was not revealed.” D.C.’s FY2027 capital budget includes $380M “for ballpark renovation and maintenance over six years,” including $250M combined between FY2028 and FY2029, from a fund the council created in 2024. It is “unclear if the renovations Bowser is now proposing would be in addition to those noted in the capital budget.” Bowser’s intent to advance a Nationals Park renovation “emerges just days after she came out against legislation” that calls for D.C. to commit $300M to a $620M plan to add 8,000 seats and a climate-controlling roof to D.C.
