The 81-year-old singer’s medical emergency has taken the Leipzig and Hamburg arena dates off the Splat! tour — tickets stay valid for new dates.
Deep Purple have been forced to postpone two German arena shows after frontman Ian Gillan was hospitalised following a medical emergency, per the band’s own statement, reported by Blabbermouth and NME. The Leipzig show at the QI Arena on Saturday, Oct. 31, and the Hamburg show at the Sporthalle on Sunday, Nov. 1, are both off as scheduled, per the statement.
The band’s statement, and what is not known
“With great disappointment, Deep Purple must announce that they are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at the QI Arena (Leipzig) and tomorrow evening at the Sporthalle (Hamburg),” the band wrote, per NME and Blabbermouth. “This comes as a result of a medical emergency involving Ian Gillan, which has resulted in his current hospitalisation.” The band said it shares fans’ disappointment at the short notice, is working to arrange replacement dates for both concerts, and confirmed that all tickets already purchased will remain valid for the rescheduled performances, signing off, per NME: “With the greatest love and respect… Deep Purple x.”
