Naperville Central 42, DeKalb 17: At DeKalb, the Barbs were up 10-0 after a Jason Goode touchdown early in the second quarter and trailed 21-17 at halftime, but the offense sputtered in the second half.
Jarquavious Scott recovered a fumble for the Barbs and took it down to the Redhawks 3, setting Goode up for his touchdown.
But the Redhawks (2-3 overall, 1-1 DuPage Valley) scored the three touchdowns. The Barbs got back into the game before halftime with a 10-yard run by quarterback LeBron Carrington.
Coach Derek Schneeman said the team hung around in the second half, went into the fourth down 28-17, but gave up two late touchdowns.
The loss was on the heels of a 34-14 loss to Waubonsie Valley last week.
“It was a step forward this week, a big improvement,” Schneeman said. “We played with a lot of energy. We were pretty physical on both sides of the ball. I hope we take the same steps we did this week next week against Neuqua.”
