Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that state law enforcement agencies have detained nearly 3,000 undocumented migrants, with 500 possessing criminal backgrounds. During a briefing in Orlando, DeSantis highlighted that 600 of these individuals have been processed at the "Alligator Alcatraz" detention facility in the Everglades, a site that has attracted protests from Democratic critics citing human rights concerns. To bolster immigration enforcement, the Florida Highway Patrol is establishing a dedicated division within the Bureau of Criminal Investigations. Additionally, the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is constructing a new interdiction station along U.S. 231 at the Alabama border, enhancing collaboration with federal agencies. DeSantis noted that 1,800 highway patrol officers have completed training under the ICE 287(g) program, allowing them to enforce immigration laws.
