Diamondbacks progress with injured players
The Arizona Diamondbacks are making progress with several injured players, including catcher Gabriel Moreno and first baseman Pavin Smith, who are expected to begin rehab assignments next week.
Gabriel Moreno's recovery
Moreno, who is recovering from a fractured finger, participated in live batting practice on Friday, taking three at-bats and running the bases. He has also started throwing and hitting off tees. According to manager Torey Lovullo, Moreno might start a rehab stint soon, potentially as early as next week, with a goal of rejoining the team during their homestand starting August 18. Though eligible to return from the 60-day injured list next weekend, Lovullo anticipates a slightly later return.
"He'll likely catch more bullpens, get some additional at-bats, and rebuild hand and arm strength," Lovullo stated. "I'm expecting him to play games in Reno or elsewhere midweek next week."
