Disney Discontinues Reporting Subscriber and Revenue Metrics
Disney has announced that it will discontinue publicly reporting subscriber counts and average revenue per user (ARPU) figures for its streaming services. Beginning in the first quarter of fiscal 2026, Disney+ and Hulu will no longer disclose these metrics, while ESPN+ will cease reporting after the fourth quarter of 2025.
Reasons Behind the Change
In a statement accompanying its quarterly earnings, Disney CEO Bob Iger and CFO Hugh Johnston explained that the company aims to better align its financial disclosures with its evolving operational strategies. They noted that since the initiation of subscriber and ARPU reporting, the media landscape and Disney's direct-to-consumer approach have significantly changed, rendering these figures less meaningful for evaluating performance.
