Northwest suburban Township High School District 214 launched a series of six community meetings on the district’s proposed building referendum Monday (Sept. 14) at Prospect High School in Mount Prospect.
Supt. Scott Rowe presented details of the $295 million referendum question that will appear on Nov. 3 election ballots, the district’s first building referendum in more than five decades. The last one came in 1971, when Buffalo Grove High School was built.
Rowe explained that the district has invested nearly $200 million over the past decade on replacing roofs, HVAC systems, lighting and technology, while keeping up with ongoing maintenance.
“This work keeps our schools running,” Rowe explained. “But buildings that are between 53 and 69 years old inevitably develop needs that annual maintenance alone cannot fully solve. Aging is not neglect, it’s what decades of service look like, and this is why replacement planning starts now, before failures occur.”
