Dothan school board approves salary increases for teachers, support staff, school leaders

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) - More than 1,000 Dothan City Schools employees could see higher pay under a proposed salary plan approved by the city school board, though the raises depend on securing funding from the City of Dothan.

The Dothan City Board of Education approved the measure during a special called meeting Sept. 22. If funded, the package would affect about 1,092 teachers, support staff and school and district leaders for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Under the proposal, teachers would receive an additional 6% pay increase on top of the state’s 2% raise, placing district teacher pay about 8.65% above Alabama’s salary schedule.

Support staff would see raises of at least 5%, with an average increase of about 7.6%. The plan also raises starting pay for bus drivers to $92 per day, matches bookkeeper pay with school secretaries and adjusts compensation for aides, technology specialists and leadership roles.
