Square Enix has revealed new gameplay and story details for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, including Quick Scouting and Joint Battles. The publisher has also released new assets and confirmed that a free demo is now available ahead of the game’s December 3, 2026 launch.
Quick Scouting allows players to recruit wild monsters without entering combat. Players can approach a monster in the field and offer it meat in an attempt to convince it to join the party. Rarer monsters that do not appear in the wild can instead be found at the Scout Run, a paddock in Witherwood that becomes available later in the story.
Joint Battles see Bianca and Nera team up against massive enemies that neither character can handle alone. The pair share HP and MP gauges and can provoke an enemy’s Pet Hates to increase its Rage Gauge before tiring it out. Joint Battles can be played in the battle arena or online with up to four friends.
New story details also reveal the disappearance of Almira, voiced by Grace Saif, who serves as Witherwood’s guardian and the Watcher of the Archeagles.
