During a training camp session, Barkley explained, "A few months ago, I learned about the council through my team. Honestly, I wasn't very familiar with it at the time." He added, "Considering my busy schedule and family commitments, we decided it would be best not to participate. I was somewhat surprised when my name was brought up, but I believe it's a commendable initiative, and I appreciate the offer."
The council was established by President Trump via an executive order on July 31st. Its mission is to advise the president and recommend strategies for school-based physical education programs, including the revival of the Presidential Fitness Test, a staple in American schools from 1966 until 2013.
