Enzo Le Fee gets Sunderland’s European campaign off to winning start
Sunderland have taken to calling him the little magician and Enzo Le Fée delivered another sparkling performance to get their European adventure off to a winning start.
Le Fée, who revealed his love for magic tricks in an interview with Telegraph Sport this week, was at his elusive best against AZ Alkmaar. The best player on the pitch, who had already hit the post in the first half and fired another spectacular long-range strike into the side netting, won and converted the penalty that finally broke the Dutch visitors’ resistance.
It came at the ideal time – Alkmaar survived intense pressure at the end of the first half but had looked dangerous in the second.
Le Fée, though, showed his class, turning inside one defender in the box and drawing a foul from another as he prepared to shoot. Having missed from the spot against Arsenal last weekend, the Stadium of Light held its breath as he took responsibility again. The roar when the ball hit the back of the net – Le Fée put it in exactly the same spot David Raya had pulled off a stunning save four days earlier – was spine tingling.
