Over the weekend, a 19-year-old ex-employee of the Department of Government Efficiency was assaulted during an attempted carjacking in downtown Washington. The incident drew attention from President Donald Trump, who commented on social media about the rising violence.
According to a report by the Metropolitan Police Department, Edward Coristine was confronted by a group of ten teenagers while he was with a woman. During the altercation, Coristine pushed his companion into a nearby vehicle and turned to face the suspects. The assailants then began to physically attack him.
Police responded promptly, arriving at the scene as the assault was ongoing, and arrested two individuals involved. Trump shared a photograph of Coristine, bloodied and sitting on the ground, on Truth Social, emphasizing the need for stronger crime control measures in the city.
In his post, Trump warned city officials that if Washington, D.C., fails to address its crime issues swiftly, federal authorities might take charge of the city's governance. He expressed concern that years of neglect have led to violent incidents affecting young residents like Coristine.
