Discover the vibrant city of Marquette, Michigan
Nestled along the shores of Lake Superior, on your next Upper Peninsula adventure, our week-long stay in this charming town, based at a lakeside rental just outside the city center, allowed us to experience the area's top attractions—from outdoor activities to local culinary delights. Whether visiting with family, seeking a romantic retreat, or traveling solo, Marquette offers a captivating mix of natural beauty and cultural charm.
Enjoy the pristine waters of Lake Superior
A highlight of visiting Marquette is direct access to Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes, covering over 31,000 square miles—more extensive than South Carolina! The beaches are clean and inviting, perfect for swimming, rock collecting, or simply relaxing by the water. Our children loved splashing in the waves and hunting for colorful stones.
During warmer months, we tried paddleboarding and kayaking on the calm, clear waters. In winter, the nearby lake ice caves transform into a stunning natural spectacle worth exploring.
