Fairfield flood victims say no emergency alert came before homes were damaged

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) - Flash flooding damaged more than a dozen homes in a Fairfield neighborhood Sunday, and residents say they received no warning from the town’s emergency alert system before the water hit.

Four to five feet of floodwater came into homes on Lynbrook Road and Lewis Drive Sunday. Basements flooded, and belongings were damaged or destroyed.

Pablo Romero and his family live in a single-story house in the neighborhood. Water filled their entire basement and then rose until more than a foot of water swept through their home. The family was not home at the time; they were staying at a hotel.

The Romeros have been living at the hotel since July, when their home was previously flooded by the Rooster River. They had spent weeks replacing floorboards, electrical work and other repairs before Sunday’s flooding caused more damage.
