GALENA — Since opening in April, Family First Enrichment Cooperative has established itself as a school, activity center and community social hub in downtown Galena.
Owner and founder Lauren Scott, a mother of three boys, is inviting the community to learn about what’s planned next.
“I promise you it’s going to be fun,” she said. “The hardest part is getting the word out in the county that we’re here.”
Scott and business partner Adrian Cotton have organized activities for kids and adults. Scott’s vision is creating a place where the community supports families, children find inspiring role models and gain a safe environment to learn life skills for healthy development.
As a former health care worker for CareFirst insurance, Scott visited communities throughout the county and identified gaps in available resources and activities, particularly on the north side.
“I saw there were a lot of gaps, and there was nothing much to do especially here in the north side of the county,” she said.
Faith-based school during day
During school hours, Scott instructs a faith-based program for grades 3-8. She currently teaches five students academics, life lessons and critical thinking skills.
