Parties Involved and Initial Claims
The lawsuit included representatives of victims and injured parties who sued county officials, the sheriff, and the club's owners. However, U.S. District Court Senior Judge William J. Martínez dismissed most claims last month. The plaintiffs argued that county officials' failure to remove Aldrich's firearms, under state law, violated their constitutional rights to due process by allowing the shooting to happen. The judge, however, determined that existing case law did not support such a constitutional claim.
