Georgia College & State University is mourning a sophomore forward. Isabella “Izzy” Sause died on Sunday, Aug. 30. She was 19. The Loganville native had spent more than two years in treatment for a rare melanoma.
She stayed on the women’s soccer roster and kept a pre-nursing track. Her family said she wanted to care for sick children after seeing how nurses had cared for her.
On Aug. 31, the team shared the heartbreaking news with an Instagram post.
“She was and always will be an integral part of our group, and we know she will always be a Bobcat and be with us.” The program posted its own note. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Izzy passed away on Sunday morning surrounded by her family and loved ones. Izzy brought out the best in anyone she ever encountered and was a ray of sunshine on the cloudiest day. She will be deeply missed by everyone associated with GCSU Soccer. Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat.”
“Izzy was always a beaming light of positivity and saw the best in any situation,” head coach Jack Marchant said.
