FGE Rules Out Organized Crime and Identifies Marlen Vázquez’s Partner as Suspected of Femicide

ENSENADA, Baja California.—What began on September 17 as a missing-person report ended four days later with the arrest of Marlen Vázquez Saavedra’s partner for his probable responsibility in her femicide, according to the Baja California State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).
Marlen, 37, was known in Ensenada and the Valle de Guadalupe for her work as a real estate agent. Her disappearance quickly generated concern among family members, friends and members of the local community, while authorities launched a search to determine her whereabouts.
The case also triggered widespread speculation. Because of Marlen’s profession, versions circulated suggesting that she had gone to show a property to people she did not know and that those individuals might have been involved in her disappearance.
Those accounts were not confirmed by authorities, but they generated concern among local real estate professionals. Some began discussing the need for additional safety precautions when meeting prospective clients or showing properties, particularly in isolated areas.
