A fire truck and a fuel truck gave Rossville Elementary School’s pre-K students a close-up look at the vehicles behind two important kinds of community work.
The visits were part of a two-week classroom focus on community helpers and the vehicles that support them. Mr. Woollen of the Rossville Volunteer Fire Department drove a fire truck to the school, and Mr. Yaggie of Newton Oil brought a fuel truck. Each took time from his workday to introduce students to his vehicle, explain its features, and describe how it helps people in the community.
For young children, a truck can be easy to recognize and exciting to see. The visit gave students a chance to think beyond what the vehicles look like. A fire truck carries equipment firefighters need when responding to emergencies. A fuel truck delivers a product that people and businesses depend on to keep vehicles and equipment operating. Seeing the two trucks together helped students explore how different jobs call for different tools.
