Five women have been detained at Singapore's Changi Airport after authorities uncovered nearly 27 kilograms of cocaine concealed within stuffed toys in their luggage during a transit stop. The women, aged between 21 and 48, now face serious drug trafficking charges that could result in the death penalty under Singaporean law. On July 29, 2025, officers from Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), collaborating with Hong Kong law enforcement, intercepted the group in the transit zone of Terminal 4. The investigation led to the seizure of approximately 26.9 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside plush toys, along with a small quantity of cannabis. All five suspects, including Hong Kong national Chung Ka Yiu and four Kenyan nationals—Faith Awino Ouma, Genetrix Atsieno Juma, Joyce Njeri Mburu, and Margaret Kawira Mungai—have been charged under Singapore’s Misuse of Drugs Act. The law stipulates that trafficking over 30 grams of cocaine warrants a mandatory death sentence, rendering this case a capital offense.
