Leh, Ladakh has inaugurated flower fields located at an elevation of 10,600 feet. This project, launched in record time, spans 40 acres across Choglamsar and Stakna and features 25 lakh Lilium and Gladiolus flowers. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena officiated the inauguration on Sewa Diwas, coinciding with the birthday of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The project is part of an initiative to promote agricultural diversification in Ladakh's cold desert environment, an area traditionally known for its harsh climatic conditions. According to Saxena, this endeavor aims to enhance the income of local farmers by introducing floriculture as a viable livelihood option.
Saxena further noted that the flower fields will not only serve as a source of income but also function as a training center for progressive farmers. This facility will combine technology with traditional agricultural practices to cultivate interest among the youth and help them explore entrepreneurial pathways within floriculture.
