ELK RIVER — Despite wearing down the defense on Friday, Sept. 25, the Elk River ground game found an extra setting against the Alexandria football team.
The Elks scored 31 unanswered points in the second half to turn a close battle into a runaway 39-14 victory over the Cardinals on the former’s Homecoming night. The victory comes despite Alexandria controlling the possession battle throughout the contest, running 71 plays to the Elks’ 32 snaps on offense.

However, Elk River (4-0) outgained the Cardinals on the ground 308-165, and were 2-of-3 on third-down plays in the game. On the flip side, the Elks defense held Alexandria to a 3-of-11 mark on third down in the game.
Connor Wang continued his strong form off of last week’s 3-touchdown game, scoring the first points of the contest with a 4-yard run in the opening quarter. Elk River answered back as Caleb Healy broke off a 48-yard touchdown run to bring the game back level.
