Former CBS News Radio staffers accepted two national Edward R. Murrow Awards Monday (Oct. 12), months after CBS shut down the service, with the group holding signs reading “Fired for Overall Excellence” during the ceremony in New York.
CBS News Radio won national honors for Overall Excellence and Best Newscast in Network Radio at the Radio Television Digital News Association’s Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala at Gotham Hall. The newscast award recognized “CBS World News Roundup: Plane Crash at DCA.”
Twenty-five former staff members and colleagues attended the event to celebrate work produced before CBS ended the service in May. When the Overall Excellence award was presented, the group assembled onstage and received a standing ovation from journalists in attendance.
Among those accepting the awards were former Operations Manager Dustin Gervais, former Affiliate Sales Manager Amy Bolton, former Executive Editor and unit manager Jennifer Brown, former Executive Editor Tara Lipinsky and former Vice President and General Manager Craig Swagler, who is now CEO of Baltimore Public Media. They were joined by writers, producers, anchors, reporters and other contributors.
