Former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Mike Pennel recently expressed deep appreciation for the veteran players who mentored him during his time with the team. Reflecting on his journey, Pennel cited legends like Clay Matthews and Julius Peppers as pivotal influences in his development.
In a post-practice interview last week, now with the Kansas City Chiefs, Pennel highlighted the mentorship he received from veteran teammates at Green Bay. "Having great vets like Matthews, Peppers, B.J. Raji, and Nick Perry was instrumental in my growth," he stated. "They took me under their wing, sharing insights beyond the field to help me succeed."
During his three seasons with the Packers (2014-2016), Pennel participated in 37 games, recording 40 tackles, one sack, and a forced fumble. His tenure coincided with a successful playoff run, including appearances in the divisional round and NFC Championship.
Pennel contributed significantly to the Packers' defensive line during that era, earning respect as a key locker room presence. His career later flourished with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played a vital role in their Super Bowl victories in 2019 and 2023.
