Who will be steering the ship in Robbinsdale next year? Four people are vying for two open seats on the council.
The League of Women Voters hosted a forum on Sept. 23 so voters in Robbinsdale can better understand their candidates. Only those in Wards 3 and 4 will be voting on council members in November.
Ward 3 candidates are Sofi Villena and Klaus Weber. Currently, the seat is held by Mia Parisian, who is not running for re-election.
Ward 4 candidates are Alejandro Caceres Aranda and Melodie Neff. Caceres Aranda holds the seat currently; he was appointed by the council last year.
Candidates each received the same amount of speaking time, and they alternated the order in which they answered questions. To begin, candidates were given time to offer introductions. Then they were asked several questions from the public. Finally, they offered concluding thoughts.
Candidates were asked to describe their goals for Robbinsdale.
Weber spoke about gathering input from others. He praised the efforts to improve the downtown, indicating he would like to continue with that.
Villena spoke about inclusivity, elevating resident voices and improving public transportation.
