Free family event to teach safety skills, offer car seat checks

COLUMBUS — Children and teens will have the opportunity to learn important safety skills during kids safety day on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Mike’s Auto Sales and Towing in Columbus.

The annual event, hosted by Columbus Community Hospital and Mike’s Auto Sales and Towing, will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1858 33rd Ave. Organizers said the event would feature demonstrations and interactive displays designed to teach young people about fire safety, seatbelt use, power line safety and other topics.

Certified car seat technicians will provide free car seat inspections on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointments are required.

Attendees also may enter a drawing for a free bicycle.

“This event is a very good way for kids to learn about safety of all kinds and have fun at the same time,” Mike Fleming, owner of Mike’s Auto Sales and Towing, said in a statement. “This year, it’s really special because we are having a drawing for children to win a new bike.”
