With so many struggling with the triple whammy of high taxes, high food prices and high energy costs, it is good news indeed that a triple threat candidate – a businesswoman with an MBA in finance, environmental engineer, and community leader…make that a quadruple threat because she’s also a mom – is running for the Putnam County Legislature.
Gwen Burke is all of that. As both a scientist and finance expert, she has managed multimillion dollar projects in communities across the state dealing with waste management, water and air quality and site remediation. She’s a former high school chemistry and math teacher and tutor, former Girl Scout leader and soccer mom. And she raised three kids who went through the Mahopac School District and put them all through college.
What hasn’t Gwen done? Answer: run for public office! But she’s doing that now. And if elected she can apply her long experience, deep knowledge and professional abilities to such projects as bringing more businesses into Putnam to alleviate the tax burden on homeowners, assessing how best to use the bloated tax dollar surplus, leveraging ways to lower energy costs, and ensuring that our air and water are saf...
