Unexpected Honor from the Harriet Hancock Center
Teresa and I were completely surprised when Harriet Hancock reached out to inform us that we had been selected for The Legacy Award by the Harriet Hancock Center in 2025. It was an unexpected honor that filled us with joy and awe, recognizing the contributions of two lesbians from the small towns of Richards, Texas, and New Prospect, South Carolina. Growing up before the Stonewall era, we never imagined such acknowledgment would come from one of Columbia's leading LGBTQ+ organizations.

Harriet Hancock has been an invaluable figure in our community, a friend Teresa and I have admired for over thirty years. The center named after her continues to provide a safety net for individuals of all ages, championing the pursuit of equal justice for all South Carolinians.
