Florida State football suffered a potential blow to its defensive front Saturday night when starting defensive end Deante McCray was helped off the field with a left leg injury during the second quarter against Clemson at Doak Campbell Stadium.
McCray went down following a play late in the first half and required assistance from trainers to leave the field. While he was unable to walk on his own, the fifth-year defensive lineman was able to put some weight on his left leg as he made his way to the sideline before being taken to the locker room for further evaluation.
If McCray does not return, he would finish the game with two tackles.
A key piece of FSU's defensive line, McCray entered Saturday with 11 tackles and one sack this season while starting every game at defensive end.
FSU trailed Clemson 20-10 with less than two minutes remaining in the second quarter as the Seminoles awaited an update on one of their most experienced defenders.
McCray's status will be worth monitoring for the remainder of the game and beyond, as FSU could be without one of its veteran defensive leaders if the injury proves significant.
