Google has been fined €403m (about $462.7 million) by the The Republic of Ireland Data Protection Commission (DPC).
The DPC announced the fine Monday, and attributed it to the way the Alphabet company handled location data.
An investigation triggered by the European consumers rights organization, the DPC said Google had breached EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) standards between May 2018 and February 2020.
The investigation was based on processing data in three Google features: Web & App Activity, Location History and Location Accuracy.
The decision was made by the Commissioners for Data Protection Des Hogan, Dale Sunderland and Niamh Sweeney.
