Gov. Jim Pillen has announced a new initiative aimed at bringing veterans and their families to Nebraska.
During a news conference at the State Capitol on Tuesday, the Director of the Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs, John Hilgert, said the state is reaching out to nearly 86,000 transitioning and soon-to-be transitioning veterans through the Good Life is Calling Veterans program.
"We're reaching out to all those servicemembers who say, number one, 'I want to come home to Nebraska,' or 'I want to come to Nebraska,' and two, which is a larger group, those veterans who say, 'I'm open to anything,'" Hilgert said.
"We want to make a case to come home to Nebraska for education, for job opportunities, for their standard of living, and the great place that it is, because, as we say, 'It's the people.'"
The Good Life is Calling Veterans will be run by the Nebraska Commission on Military and Veterans Affairs in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Nebraska Department of Economic Development, Nebraska Department of Labor, Nebraska Department of Education and the Nebraska Military Department.
