GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township is donating more than 40,000 pounds of food and daily necessities to FISH of Grand Blanc Service Center to honor four parish members killed in an attack nearly a year ago.
"It's been a little bit of a rollercoaster as we kind of lead up to and remember the events of September 28th," said Stephanie Rossello.
Rossello, a ward member with the church, said the best way to honor those lost was to remember the kindness their community was shown during their darkest time.
"Meals were brought in, little kids made jewelry, all of these things," Rossello said. "Gifts of photos and pictures and hugs."
The group decided a truck was to be packed with over 40,000 pounds of goods and unloaded by church volunteers at FISH of Grand Blanc Service Center. Rossello said it was their way to give back to the Grand Blanc community for showing up for them.
Barb Smith, longtime volunteer and chairperson for FISH of Grand Blanc, said the donation comes at a critical time.
"In my nearly 50 years of experiencing out here, we've never ever had bare cupboards like we have right now," Smith said.
