On Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 6 p.m., residents from across western Wisconsin will gather at Veterans Park in River Falls for "No Blank Checks for Big Tech," a rally and press conference calling for an end to Wisconsin’s sales-tax exemption for hyperscale data center companies.
GROWW estimates that the exemption will give hyperscale data center companies more than $2 billion in tax relief without guaranteeing the transparency, accountability and protections Wisconsin families and communities deserve.
Rep. Shannon Zimmerman, who represents Assembly District 30 — including communities around River Falls and Hudson — co-authored the bill that created Wisconsin’s sales-tax exemption for companies building data centers. Rep. Clint Moses, who represents Assembly District 92, also voted in favor of the exemption. His district includes Menomonie, where hundreds of residents organized over the past year in response to a secretive $1.6 billion data center proposal.
Residents and GROWW members are coming together to hold Zimmerman and Moses accountable to their constituents and demand public officials who work for the people they represent — not corporate billionaires or Wall Street shareholders...
