Last Thursday, the policy committee of the Glendive Unified School Board convened for a three-hour session to examine proposed policy updates and legislative requirements impacting the district.
This meeting marked the initial phase of a broader process, as various administrative adjustments were presented by the Montana School Board Association, reflecting new state laws enacted during the 2025 legislative session.
A key topic was the shift to an internal review system for policies, reducing reliance on the previous review process managed by MTSBA. According to GUSB Chair Mike Ziegler, this change will allow the district to implement updates more efficiently, though he emphasized the need for additional procedures to ensure quality control through multiple reviews.
Attendees included trustee Jay Phalen and Superintendent Stephen Schreibeis, providing an opportunity to revisit both current and longstanding policy matters. Ziegler noted efforts to synchronize policies, especially where past updates were not consistently reflected.
Discussions covered various areas, including policies on out-of-district student attendance, remote learning, gifted education, and detailed procedure...
