H&M Group, Inditex, Primark and Walmart are among the 15 brands with the power to help Bangladesh slash its carbon emissions by 1.26 million tons annually, according to a report from Stand.earth Research Group. And the organization is calling on them to take action via their Clean Energy Investment Pact.
The report, “Fashion’s Fair Share: Bangladesh Buyers’ Climate Opportunity,” found that 15 companies account for 26.3 percent of Bangladesh’s apparel exports by weight, giving them significant power to reduce the nation’s carbon emissions by an estimated 8.50 million tons by 2040.
Using customs and sourcing data, Stand.earth assessed the brands’ buying power and modeled potential emissions savings from those companies’ support of renewable energy in Bangladesh’s garment industry. Zara parent Inditex, H&M Group and Primark were the nation’s three largest buyers by weight, accounting for more than 11 percent of Bangladesh’s apparel exports in 2025.
