SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. - New details have emerged about three of the people involved in a deadly weekend crash in Shasta County. Five people were killed, and one person was critically injured.
The California Highway Patrol said a Honda Civic crossed the center line Saturday just after 9 p.m. on Highway 299 near Whiskeytown. All three people in that Honda were killed.
The Civic hit a Toyota Prius head-on. Sharlene Casados Black, 52, of Happy Valley, was in the Prius. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her son, Charles Casados Black, 19, was critically injured and remains in the hospital in the ICU in critical but stable condition. He's also from Happy Valley.
Another family member, a young man, died at the hospital. The CHP has not released information about why the Civic crossed into oncoming traffic.
