Dozens received free foot care from one local nonprofit serving them in person Saturday.
Dozens came to the Erie City Mission Saturday morning for free foot care and medical services from Harvest 9-1-2 volunteers and healthcare workers.
Their focus is on healthcare, from foot care and footwear to other essential health needs.
Their goal is to support those facing homelessness and economic hardship.
Those involved in planning say healthy feet are critical for people who rely on walking and may not have regular access to medical care.
"We do it to give back to the community. It started just seeing people on the street in shoes that didn't fit or without shoes. The first person we ever worked with had no shoes at all, and these folks spend so much time on their feet, and foot care is really important," said Tad Jakes, co-founder of Harvest 9-1-2.
Organizers say events like this help address immediate health concerns while providing support and resources to some of the community's most vulnerable residents.
