High Springs residents will soon decide on a proposed change to the alcohol sales law, allowing breweries to operate on Sundays after 1 p.m. This change comes after the City Commission approved a second reading of the ballot language aimed at amending the local alcohol ordinance during a special session on Thursday.
The motion, introduced by Commissioner Katherine Weitz and seconded by Commissioner Wayne Bloodsworth Jr., received unanimous support from the commission members present, with Mayor Tristan Grunder and Commissioner Chad Howell absent.
Voters will be asked on November 4th to approve amendments to ordinance sections 10-2(c)-(e), which would permit breweries producing malt beverages on-site to stay open from 7 a.m. to midnight Monday through Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
"This measure isn't exclusive to High Springs Brewing Company but rather creates a broader exception for multiple breweries," explained City Attorney Danielle Adams.
