Hill City Embraces Motorcycle Enthusiasts During Sturgis Rally
Last year, over 2,800 motorcyclists visited Hill City, South Dakota.
As the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally approaches, Hill City experiences a surge in biker activity. Similar to other Black Hills communities, Hill City attracts numerous riders, with approximately 2,800 stopping by the visitor center last year. To foster a welcoming atmosphere and encourage longer stays, the town has designated Main Street as motorcycle-only traffic zones. Local businesses are also launching special promotions throughout the rally week to capitalize on the increased visitor presence.
The Hill City Visitor Center offers complimentary water and snacks to passing bikers. According to Erin Loder, Executive Director of the Hill City Chamber of Commerce, the center provides customized grab-and-go packets, including biker-specific maps, routes, and a distinctive sticker featuring Smokey Bear riding a motorcycle.
Additionally, the Chamber hosts a photo contest inviting bikers to pose with Smokey Bear. The winning entry will be rewarded with a gift basket filled with treats from local Hill City businesses, mailed directly to the rider.
