Exploring Fort George in Grenada
From Facebook:
I aimed to help my police aides grasp the historical significance of CARICOM. In 1983, a military uprising and rebellion took place against Prime Minister Maurice Bishop, who had himself ascended to power through a coup. Bishop, a former classmate of ex-Prime Minister Perry Christie at the University of Birmingham, was ultimately executed by his colleagues, with the execution site marked by a plaque at Fort George. Our restoration tour was led by Shera Lateau, with Sergeant Damier serving as my guide in Grenada. The Foreign Service team joined us for a group photo. Throughout the CARICOM region, there have been three military coups—two in Trinidad and one in Grenada—while civilian governance has generally been maintained. A Grenadian police officer present, born a year after the 1983 events, had learned about them in school.
