Hitachi Energy announces $528 million expansion in Copiah County, Mississippi

Hitachi Energy announced on Sep. 15 that it will expand its transformer manufacturing operations in Copiah County, Mississippi, representing a $528 million investment and the creation of 654 jobs. The company’s current facility in Copiah County produces small power transformers and employs 475 people.

The expansion will increase Hitachi Energy’s production capacity and broaden the range of small power transformers manufactured domestically. This move is aimed at meeting growing demand across North America and strengthening the domestic supply chain for critical energy infrastructure. The project includes purchasing a 45-acre site at the Copiah County Industrial Park in Gallman, constructing a new facility, installing new manufacturing equipment, and making infrastructure improvements.

The Mississippi Development Authority is supporting the project through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive program as well as providing assistance with site development and infrastructure improvements.
